oven window glass

Easy ways to clean stubborn stains off your oven window glass

An essential component of keeping your oven in good condition is understanding how to clean the glass door. Every spill, splatter, and mishap that occurs during cooking remains there until it is cleaned up, especially on the oven window glass. However, by the time you finish your meal and the oven cools down, those messes are forgotten because you can’t clean the inside of a hot oven. So debris, grime, and grease can really build up.

Thankfully, cleaning a glass oven door isn’t impossible. But it does take some effort and a few tools to get the job done right. Here’s how you can get those stubborn stains off your oven window glass to get it looking like new again.

Step 1: Make sure the oven has cooled down and is not hot to the touch

Step 2: Make a mixture of water and baking soda in a bowl with a ratio of three to one. Stir the mixture to a loose paste texture and smear it on the inside window of the open oven door. Ensure it touches all corners of the glass by spreading it with your hands. Allow the soda paste to remain on the oven window guard for 15 minutes. During this time, the mixture should soften the stains so they’re easier to wipe off.

Step 3: Scrub the oven glass with a rough sponge when the baking soda solution has softened the stains. Though the grime should have softened considerably by now, a smooth sponge will not get rid of all those stubborn stains. So, use the coarse side to brush off the hard-to-get stains in a swipe.

Step 4: Once you’ve scrubbed the oven door, it’s time to wipe off the grease with a damp micro-fibre cloth.

Step 5: If the glass oven door still appears foggy or shows streaks, apply a drop of grease-cutting dish soap to a damp cloth and use it to wipe down the door. Then rinse with a clean, damp cloth and dry thoroughly.

Step 6: Finally, to achieve that glittering look of a new oven glass, give the window a final wipe using a glass cleaner. Commercial window cleaners, such as Windex, will fully restore the sparkle of the glass.

Oven windows are just like any other glass: they’re made to collect dirt, grease, and grime over time. However, it’s not rocket science to get them sparkling clean again. All you need is some patience and dedication, and to follow the above steps!
