new fridge

Common signs you need a new fridge

A new fridge is a big investment and an absolute necessity. When you invest in a good quality one, its lifespan is usually around 10-15 years. But unfortunately, like all appliances, the time will come when you have to bid your goodbyes and invest in a new refrigerator. Here are the telltale signs you’re fridge is about to die.

Your food spoils before its expiration date

This one is obvious, but the bottom line is your fridge should not spoil food. It should always be able to keep your foods at a safe temperature and provide the best nutrition, flavour and taste. If your fridge is not in good working condition, the chances of it spoiling food are high. However, before you assume that your frigde is broken, check the temperature setting. If it’s adjusted correctly and you find yourself having to chuck out your weekly groceries, then it’s time to invest in a new fridge.

Your fridge is very loud

When your fridge is old and not performing well, it will make a lot of noise. The wrong temperature setting or even the malfunctioning of any other part inside your fridge can make it noisy. Most refrigerators emit a gentle hum, but if your appliance has recently started buzzing loudly, the motor might be struggling to work properly. Try unplugging the fridge and plugging it back into the socket. If the buzzing doesn’t stop, your fridge is probably dying.

Your freezer has built up frost

If your freezer is starting to become an iceberg, then you’ll need a new one. Over time, freezer burn can build up inside your appliance and the frost will block the vents. This is why it’s important to change your fridge over a gradual period of time so that you don’t end up with a broken freezer. Excessive frost can lead to odors, loss of storage space, and ineffective sealing of the appliance door.

Increased Utility bill

If you’ve been using the same old refrigerator for many years, it could be that your appliance is not performing as well as it should. This might be affecting the actual energy efficiency of your refrigeration system. If you notice that your utility bill for the past few months has been unusually higher than usual, and if this does not coincide with other factors, then your fridge may be the culprit.

Having your fridge serviced is no more than an essential requirement in maintaining its efficiency and lifespan. Most models are meant to last you a long time, but they can suddenly become inefficient due to various factors like faulty seals or the freezer not working efficiently. There may also be equipment that malfunctions which will necessitate the replacement of the entire appliance. It’s always advisable to stick with a trusted repair company for these kinds of repairs that may not only save you money but also make your fridge run efficiently.
